Workshop 2004-04-09:

"Strategies of overcoming homophobia"

In this second workshop we talked about which strategies will be needed to overcome homophobia. Because we were in different groups the first day we started with making a list with things we thought bring forward homophobia.

On that list were for example: media, religion/church, education, culture and tradition. From this list we selected, in to smaller groups, a different subject and discussed how we thought homophobia could be overcome.

In the group that discussed about education some of the following strategies were named:

In the group that talked about tradition the most important outcome was that there should not be tried to changes the traditions that are already there, but it should be possible to created own traditions and make other people understand that it is not wrong to be different and have your own traditions.

In the group that discussed about media the possibility of becoming positive media was the most important outcome. It is in several countries still very common that homosexual people only in a negative way get into the news. That is something that should change and not only towards homosexual people but also towards other minorities.
